What about ugly stains? Stains are caused by a multitude of things, but most often, they are the result of petroleum-based products. Many times, these stains can be fixed by commercial products on the market that are actually applied over the stain to allow the sealcoat to bond to the surface. The next time you look at an unsealed asphalt surface, you will see many small air pockets.
These are areas that petroleum products and water can get into and cause serious damage. Any petroleum product that is of similar composition to your asphalt can cause damage. This should be avoided. By applying sealcoat soon after installation, and every three to five years, you prevent water damage and allow time to properly clean up your petroleum spills.
